Design Process

Renovating or redesigning a home comes with a great many interconnected decisions. My role is to bring them together in the right order, giving you a clear process and one considered design to work towards. The first four stages apply to both full-service and online design projects. From there, the level of implementation support depends on the service you choose and the requirements of your project.

Project
definition

We begin by looking beyond how you want your home to appear and consider how it needs to work. We’ll discuss your routines, priorities, style, budget and what currently frustrates you. We’ll also review the house itself and identify what should be retained, repaired, reimagined or replaced. For online projects, this stage takes place remotely using your photographs, measurements, floor plans and video.
Output: A clear project brief that brings your practical requirements, creative ambitions and budget priorities together.

Concept
design

I translate the brief into an overall creative direction for your home. Depending on the project, this can include moodboards, initial layouts, colour and material palettes, and early ideas for furniture, lighting and joinery. Looking at the complete direction before individual items are selected prevents rooms from being designed in isolation or decisions being made piecemeal.
Output: A cohesive concept that allows you to understand and respond to the direction before we develop the details.

Design
Development

We review the concept together, discussing what you love, what needs refining and where priorities or investment may need to shift. I then develop the layouts, finishes, furniture, lighting and other design elements in greater detail. Each choice is considered in relation to the others, so that the finished home feels layered and personal while remaining practical for everyday (family) life.
Output: A developed design shaped by your feedback, with the major creative and practical decisions resolved.

Detailed Design and Specifications

Once the direction is approved, I turn it into a detailed plan. Depending on the agreed scope, this may include floor plans, sketches or visualisations, colour and finish schedules, furniture and lighting specifications, window treatments, bespoke joinery concepts, and product and material schedules. Costs and availability are reviewed as selections are finalised, helping us identify substitutions or adjustments before they become urgent.
Output: A clearly documented design, with the relevant information needed to price, source and implement it accurately.

Bringing the Design to Life

Full Service Projects - I remain involved as the project moves from paper into your home. My support is tailored and quoted according to the project, and may include procurement, tender support, supplier and trades coordination, order management, site visits and answering design questions during the works. When availability changes, a detail needs clarification or an unexpected issue affects the design, I assess the options and help keep decisions consistent with the agreed vision, budget and programme.

Online Design Projects - At this stage, the completed design is handed over to you in a clear, practical format. You receive the specifications and sourcing information included in your package, along with guidance for implementing the room with your own suppliers and trades. You manage purchasing, deliveries and the work itself, but you do so with a cohesive design rather than making each decision as it arises.

Installation
and Styling

For full-service projects, all furniture, lighting and accessories are delivered to my warehouse, where I receive, check and safely store each item until your home is ready. I coordinate the suppliers, deliveries and installation in advance, so everything comes together on one carefully planned installation day - without you having to manage a stream of boxes, delivery slots or last-minute questions. I then style the finished rooms, bringing together artwork, accessories and the pieces you already own to make your home feel complete, personal and ready to enjoy.
Output: A fully installed and styled home, with every delivery and final detail handled for you.
